The Lady Who Stood by Him for Five Years

Hey, it’s him again: he tells the story of the lady who has been with him for five long years, since August 2019. He still remembers vividly: the day he met her, she was not yet 16

She was born into a wealthy family living near Tan Son Nhat airport. The first day she met him, she jumped with joy. He brought her home: in this urban sprawl, finding a lady you love is truly not easy

He bought her many new things, but what she liked most was a torn conical hat he brought back from his Ta Nang: Phan Dung trek. The way she slept, curled up inside the hat, made him think how peaceful life could be

And she was also the first lady to test his patience so much. She had her own private restroom, yet every time he came home from work, he found her pooping on his bed, on his pillow. He often argued with her: “he never poops where she lies, so why does she always like to poop where he lies?” But she innocently acted as if she didn’t understand

He liked drinking pour-over coffee and eating eggplants, assuming everyone was like him. She was not: she preferred dried anchovies mixed with warm water. He always spoiled her. Later he learned that eating too many anchovies caused her diarrhea: he had misjudged her

He left Saigon, and she followed him. She is a good lady, sharing both joy and hardship with him. He cherishes her. He loves the way she buries her head under his armpit, sniffing deeply. She gives him the feeling of being a strong man, capable of protecting the lady of his life

He used to think he chose her: but in truth, she chose him, out of countless people in magnificent Saigon. He loves her: thank you for coming and staying by his side, Mickey!
