Animal Farm: The Side Story
The pigs knew that there was no simpler way to manage the animals in the farm than by managing their empty stomachs
They had just imported a farm management tool from a foreign farm. Each animal was assigned a unique ID to log into the system, and each month they received rations proportional to their labor. However, if any error occurred during their work, the rations would be automatically deducted directly from the animal’s account
The pigs were thrilled with the tool they had just acquired, calling it the pinnacle of animal management. In her excitement, Big Pink: the stout sow who wore gaudy pink makeup unsuitable for her age and handled communications: printed propaganda banners with the slogan “Collective ownership, shaping the future”
On the first day the tool was activated, all the animals were anxious: even a minor mistake could mean starvation for that month. It affected not just the worker animals, but their beautiful wives, young offspring, or frail mothers as well. Take the horse: every morning he used to neigh loudly and leap over the fence to show his spirit. Now, he walked gently, following the line. Although slow and congested, at least they would have full bellies this month, the horses thought. The other animals obeyed perfectly as they always did, because of their unwavering faith in the wisdom of the pigs
For the pigs, this was a major success worthy of the records. They established a historical council, specializing in writing beautiful narratives to pass down to future generations
Only the sewer rats: living outside the law, granted no IDs by the pigs, allowed only to eat leftovers from other animals or scavenge from the fields: knew that something much larger was unfolding
